2+1+1 and a bit

Hellloooo,
(anybody else listening to Stash and Burn? Imagine the way that Jenny says HELLLOOOO at the beginning of each podcast)

it's me tini and I'm not here to teach you how to count of do your math but to show you my progress knitting AND sewingwise. Yes, sewing! My mojo finally came back! The reason might, be that I already finished my 10 blocks for the quilt this month and so I had some time to sew something else. That keeps me going it seems plus I used a TNT (tried and true) pattern for my projects. I made two pairs of trousers from the august issue 2003 of the Knipmode magazine. I have made this pattern already twice and now twice more

This is no.1 (both versions have been worn to work already but we took the advantage of good or better light than usual today to take pictures. I haven't washed them since wearing, so any wrinkles are due to sitting and me standing awefull. I need to find my waist too. O.k. normally I don't have that shirt tucked inside but still... Tomorrow I will be back on my diet. Meaning eating more fruit!)

These trousers are normal waisted but my crotch-depth is a little shorter and I forgot to alter the pattern. It looks really high (and is) but this has the advantage to controll the tummy a bit!

I added an welt pocket to this version:


I need to go to the gym more often too. My behind is enormous!
Fabric: Polysomething from Stoff og Stil from Denmark. Wears beautifully! 1.5 meter from stash!
Still have around 6 meter in stash of that one!



Same pattern but I added front pockets and made the waistband a lot smaller (2 cm) I also topstitched all edges twice with white thread to mimik the pinstripe.
Fabric: Another polyblend I guess, bought 2005 or so in Hamburg at Tietz Stoffe. 1.5 meter from stash, around 3 more meter in stash.

This were the "2" from the headline.
The jacket is the February Lady sweater I'm working on. 1 sleeve is done and the other is already started. Needs to be blocked to fit but I blocked my swatch and it did grew a bit, so I'm quiet confident, that the cardigan will fit. My personal photographer (DH) forgot to tell me to adjust my collar :( Need to train him better but I'm happy if he can turn the camera on since I do most of the pictures when we travel and I seldom give him the opportunity to practise.
The yarn is from Elann and although I do love the colour and the feel, I'm not 100% happy since a lot of skeins had a lot of knots in them. Since I can't get the yarn here (or just with paying an insane amount of shipping) this will not bother me further since the decision if to buy more of it will not occure soon!

Coming to my last project to show:
My plain vanilla sock (in a blurry picture). I'm trying to get some of the industrial yarns out of my stash. This was my least favourite yarn when I got it from a co-worker (o.k. maybe I disliked the yarn I used for Dads ugly socks even more), so I overdyed it. It looks really nice now but after knitting with the collinette jitterbug it feels so less nice and scratchy. I have the fear that it will not hold up well, so I decided to knit plain vanilla toe up socks.

I have ripped half of the sock so far because they came out much too big with the gusset starting 10cm before the heel. Now I started the gusset at around 11.5 cm before the heel( end of my foot) and they are still a bit loose but I'm not ripping them again.

And this is the last "1" from the headline.

Knittingwise it will be finishing the two projects for me but sewingwise I already started a new project.

We are invited to a fantasy-medivial-themed wedding in April and I'm making us new costumes. Heiko will get a shirt and a pair of trousers. He picked a teal-aqua cotton for the shirt and this is what I'm sewing at the moment. I hope to finish it soon and show you the pictures.

Btw: Shall I blog bilingual too? I could install the choice thingy but I know for sure, that it would slow me down....

Santa Sockes Abenteuer Teil VII, santa socks adventures part VII

Und zuuuummm bin ich vom Kamener Kreuz schon wieder in Norden. Ich muss zugeben, mir hat die Seeluft ein bisschen gefehlt! Aber Adriana aka PiaPessoa hat dafür gesorgt, dass ich mal wieder dieses wunderbar langsame langgezogene Deutsch höre, welches typisch für den Norden ist. (Ich bin ein Nordlicht und kann das irgendwie nicht verleugnen)

PiaPessoa lebt in Hamburg (meine Perle...) und da bekam ich dann erstmal Frühstück. (Nach Weißwurst in Bayern natürlich mit Spezialitäten aus HH. Franzbrötchen! Aber erst am Sonntag, soll ja was besonderes sein )


and zooooooommm I'm back in the north of Germany! I have to admit that the fresh breeze that is typical for the coast line was something I had missed. Adriana aka
PiaPessoa made sure that I was able to hear that slow, long drawn German again, that is typical for the northern part of Germany. In the end I'm from up here!

PiaPessoa lives in Hamburg Upon arrival we started with breakfast and after a Weisswurst breakfast in Bavaria I got a speciality from Hamburg on sunday. Franzbrötchen. YUMMY!

Aber vor dem sonntäglichen Geburtstagsfrühstück erstmal ein Ausflug nach Kiel! Hey, da komm ich ja her! Also FAST wieder zu Hause, aber meine Wanderjahre sind noch nicht vorbei!
But before having breakfast on sunday, we spend the saturday in Kiel. Hey, that is were I started. NEARLY at home but I think, I'm not done travelling yet!



Nach dem lecker Frühstück am Sonntag (Geburtstagsnachfeier, ich gehöre schliesslich schon zu fast jeder Familie in Deutschland!) sind wir dann zu einem mir total unbekannten Ort gefahren: Dem Fitnessstudio. Ich hatte ein bisschen Angst und habe mich lieber im Rucksack versteckt.

Dafür habe ich bei meinem Aufenthalt in HH doch ein bisschen an Länge gewonnen! Und so sehe ich jetzt aus:
After the yummy breakfast on sunday ( it was a birthday party and I was to celebrate with my hosts, since I nearly belong to every family in Germany now) we drove to a totally strange place, where I have never been before: the gym! Tini is kind of uhm not so keen on sports ;) I was a little bit afraid, so I hid in PiaPessoas backpack. I also gained a bit of length while beeing in Hamburg. See??

Also die Reise geht weiter ;)
am Mi. 14.01. war meine Ankunft in Kamen bei Astrid wo ich von ihrem Sohn aus dem Briefkasten gefischt wurde.

And the journey goes on.
On wednesday the 14th of january I arrived at Astrids place in Kamen, where her son got me out of the postbox.

Da dieser auf einen Adapter für die Spielkonsole wartet wurde ich im Umschlag erst mal etwas gedrückt und geknufft in der Annahme das erwartete Teil zu sein, man ist mir da bange geworden. :). Der Empfang war aber herzlich und nach dem ich den Rest des Tages entspannt abgehangen habe wurde ich am Do. 15.01. um einen weiteren Mustersatz ergänzt und nun kann ich mit etwas Hilfe schon aufrecht stehen *lach.

Since he waited for some equipment for his game pad I got squeased quiet a bit, in the hope that I would be the thingy for the game. That frightend be a bit I have to admit but the greeting was heartily and after chilling the entire day, I got a whole pattern repeat added to my height and now I'm able to stand upright *giggle* but I still need a little help with that.

Dann hatte meine Gastgeberin einen Termin und auf dem Rückweg konnte ich ein ersten Blick auf das Kamener-Kreuz werfen das, wie sollte es auch anders sein, wieder eine große Baustelle ist. Einen Stau bekam ich da leider noch nicht zu sehen. Wer mal über Google kucken mag Kamen Hammer Str. und Derner Str.

My hostess had a date on that day and on the way back I got a glimpse of the Kamener Kreuz (an intersection of two autobahn, which is kind of famous for the traffic jams) but of course the traffic was very smooth while I was there! And no I'm not trying to bungeejump!

Auf dem Heimweg ging es nochmal am Kamen-Kreuz vorbei, erst mal die A2 wo der Verkehr noch recht reibungslos lief, war wohl noch zu früh. Also die paar Meter weiter auf die andere Brücke und nochmal ein Blick auf die A1 die schon etwas zäh fließenden Verkehr hatte, aber einen richtigen Mega Stau hab ich leider nicht gesehen ;(.

On the way home, we crossed the KamenerKreuz again but still: no traffic yam but on the next brigde I could spot some though going traffic but no megasupertrafficyam :(

Also sind wir dann in die Stadt zurück und ich habe den Designer Brunnen der Goldschmiede Telgmann (http://www.telgmann.de/)besucht. Man ich sag euch, mega anstrengendes Fotoshoting *puh Schweiß von Stirn wisch*.

Es sind verschiedene Themen dargestellt und ich wurde auf jedem Bereich drapiert um dann auf die Digi gebannt zu werden.

So we went back to the city and I visited the Designer fountain of the telgmann goldsmithery (is that an English word?). I assure you, that was hard work that photoshoot! *wiping the sweat off my eyebrow uhm cuff*

There are different themes on the fountain and I was draped in each section to get the best shoots EVAR.

Als nächstes ging es dann eben die Briefmarke zur weiter Reise holen und dort war im Eingangsbereich der ganze Karnevalskram dekoriert und schaut mal was ich da entdeckt hab ;). Karneval heißt ja da wo ich herkomme noch immer Fasching und irgendwie ist das uns Nordlichtern auch eher suspekt :)

Ein älteres Ehepaar und der Postangestellte fanden meine Geschichte aber total interessant, nachdem sie sich zunächst erstmal gewundert haben, was ich da denn mache...

Next we wanted to buy a stamp (my ticket so to say) and there were a lot of costumes in the hallway since Karneval is nearly upon us and see what I've found!

An elderly couple and the guy at the post office were a bit astounded what I was doing there but they really liked the story of my journey.

Nun war ich so erledigt das ich erst mal einen Kaffee und eine herzhafte Wurst zur Stärkung brauchte, welche die Katze des Hauses auch sehr lüstern beäugte allerdings ohne sie mir streitig zu machen :).

After that I was totally knocked out and needed a coffee and some sausage (typical German here!) to get back to track. The cat of the house eyed the sausage too but let me have all of it. Maybe I still smell of tinis and yasmins cats?

Santa Sockes 5.Stop, Santa socks 5th stop

Hicks! Ich meine Huhu!
Habt Ihr mich vermisst? Ich bin so viel unterwegs, da komme ich kaum zum Schreiben. So viel gesehen und so viel erlebt, wo fange ich da bloß an? Am besten am Anfang.

Nachdem ich bei Susanne beim Sternsingen war, ging es für mich in die Nähe von Rüthen. Das ist in Nordrhein-Westfalen ( ich glaube, ich brauche bald mal ne Karte, wo ich dann so Punkte setzen kann. [ und am Ende gibt das, wenn man alle Punkte verbindet die Umrisse von Donald Duck])
Dort hat CelesteChalfonte mich aufgenommen und mich auch gleich wieder mit in die Kälte genommen. Auf zum Schlittschuhlaufen!

Hicks! I mean huhu! Did you miss me? I'm travelling so much, that I barely have the time to write. So much to see and so many new experiences. Where shall I start? Maybe it's best to start at the beginning.

After going epiphany carol singing with Susanne, my journey took me to a village close to Rüthen. That is in North Rhine-Westphalia ( I think I need a map, so mark all the places with a dot [and in the end, if you connect all the dots in the right order you will get the contours of Donald Duck]) CelesteChalfonte was my host and she took me out into the cold again. Let's go iceskating!


Minus 9 °C auf dem Hahnenmeer (das ist ein Löschteich ;)) Leider lag zu viel Schnee, um wirklich laufen zu können, also sind wir (Celeste, ihre Söhne und ich) erstmal nach Hause und am nächsten Tag weiter!

Minus )9°C on the Hahnenmeer (that is a fire water pond ;) Unfortunately there was too much snow, to actually do some iceskating, so we (Celeste, her sons and I ) went home and on the next day on.

Und hier kommt das "HICKS" ins Spiel. Wir waren nämlich in Warstein und haben uns dort die dortige Brauerei angeschaut, die wohl wie heißt? Richtig! Warsteiner.
Das Ding vor dem ich da auf dat lecker Bier (auch wenn tini ja kein Bier mag, als richtiges Nordlicht mag man eigentlich Bier!) sitze ist eine Sudpfanne!

And here it is, where the "hicks" comes from. We went to Warstein and visited the local brewery, which is called? Right! Warsteiner. The thing I'm sitting in front of (on top of the delicious beer -> even if tini does not like beer, a real northerner does like beer ;) ) is a copper brew kettle!

Aber unsere Tour war noch nicht zu Ende. Celeste wohnt nämlich in der Nähe des Flughafens Büren-Ahden, den musste ich auch noch sehen! Klasse so ein Flughafen im Schnee. WIr haben sogar einen Flieger hochsteigen sehen. Einfach nur schön! *hach da kommt Fernweh auf*

But our tour did not end there. Celeste lives close by the airport of Büren-Ahden and I had to see that. Amazing how an airport is so much nicer to look at if there's snow! We even saw a plane take off! Just beautifull don't you think! * I'm getting wanderlust!*

Reisesocke Teil IV - travelling sock part IV

Brrrrr ist das kalt! Man gut, dass ich (Santa Socke natürlich) aus massig Schurwolle bestehe, denn sonst hätte ich mein letztes Abendteuer wohl nicht ohne Frostknoten überstanden, denn ich war mal wieder in Bayern, das ist cool da! So total anders als bei den Muschelschubsern im Norden. Diesmal hatte Susanne mich in Fischach bei Augsburg aufgenommen und dort bin ich dann auch gleich ein bisschen gewachsen!

brrr, it's freezing cold! Luckily I (Santa Sock of course) consists of mostly wool, otherwise my last adventure would have caused frostknots ;) since I was in Bavaria again, that is so cool there. So completely different from what the seashellpushers up north are doing. This time I stayed with Susanne in Fischach nearby Augsburg and of course I grew a bit there!

Vor allem die Tour mit den Sternsingern war ganz interessant für ihn. Wenn auch bitterkalt. Da war er ganz froh über seine 75% Schurwollanteil!! :-)
Allerdings hatte er es auch ziemlich gemütlich im Korb; wenn es auch mit der Zeit ein wenig eng wurde vor lauter Süßigkeiten - gut dass Socken keine Gewichtsprobleme kriegen können!

Auch die Kinder hatten ihren Spaß. Brav sangen sie zum 1001-mal ihr Sternsingerlied und gingen von Tür zu Tür um für arme Kinder Geld zu sammeln.

Wieder zuhause haben wir uns alle erst mal aufgewärmt. Socke kuschelte sich in meinen Strickkorb zu den anderen (unzähligen) WIP´s. Ja, man könnte fast meinen das Getuschel zu hören, wie es raunte und kicherte, als die "heimischen" Socken" ihren weitgereisten Bruder ausgefragt haben ...

Der Hund des Hauses guckte auch ganz sehnsüchtig zu Socke, aber ich hab aufgepasst, dass er nicht mal in die Nähe kommt.

I think Santa liked it here, especially the tour with the epiphany carol singers was pretty interesting for him though bitterly cold. I think he was happy about the 75% wool content. Although he had it pretty cozy in the basket even if he had to share the basket with tons of sweets after a while. Lucky Santa that socks don't gain weight from sharing a "room" with a lots of sweets ;)

The kids had fun too, they were very good sining their epiphany carol for the 1001 time and went from door to door collecting money for poor kids and giving the traditional blessing.

At home we warmed up at first and Santa Sock hugged all the other (countless) WIPs in my knitting basket, you could literally hear the wispering and murmuring as the "local" socks -interviewed their well travelled brother!

Our dog also had an eye on the sock, but I took carefull measurements, so that he didn't even get close...

Ja, das war wirklich ein Abenteuer, denn Sternsingen gibt es da oben im Norden nicht, dafür wird an Sylvester Rummelpott gelaufen :) Nun bin ich aber schon wieder weiter und mache Halt im Sauerland! Sehe Euch bald wieder! Danke auch noch an Susanne, für das tolle Erlebnis!

Yes, that was really an adventure, since there is nothing like epiphany carol singing in Northern Germany (they do something weird called Rummelpott on New Years eve were kids go from door to door dressed up and sing too...) quilt of doom: progressreport

Hello there!

Since one of my new years resolutions was to sew 100 blocks for the quilt of doom aka wedding quilt this year I started sewing blocks on friday after finishing the pair of trousers that I made (from stash, also a new year resolution. Unfortunately it just took 1.4 meter of fabric to make them and I still have 4 or 5 more meter of the fabric...). I'll post a picture when I do not look so tired as I do today...

Since friday I have finished 8 blocks and now I have 87 blocks finished. (plus 6 out of 14 Karin is making for me in exchange for knitting her socks. Any body else in Germany who wants socks and will make blocks for me? ) I thought it was time to take a picture! I laid the blocks out on our bed, which is unfortunately a lot smaller than my sisters. Lo and behold, it does not look bad so far!
of course I will NOT change the colour in the middle of a row but I had to start somewhere...

Huhu, ich bin es wieder!

Ich hatte ja versprochen heute mit Bildern aus Langenselbold wieder zu kommen!
Mein dritter Stop war "sightseeing" und ein bisschen bei Kalinumba ausruhen! Die nimmt nicht nur Reisesocken bei sich auf, sondern macht auch traumhaft schöne Lacetuchmuster....
Hi, it's me again!
As promised today with pictures from Langenselbold!
My third stop was all about "sightseeing" and getting a bit of a rest with Kalinumba. Kalinumba doesn't just give travelling socks a place to stay, but also makes beautifull Lacepatterns for shawls!

In Langenselbold gibt es wunderliche Tiere. Da war ich doch ein bisschen verwundert!
Langenselbold has a very interesting animals! I was a little bit astonished!

Da wo ich herkomme (also aus der Nähe von Kiel), sind die Frösche so gar nicht aus Metal. Vielleicht meinen die Leute das mit Heavy Metall, denn im Gegensatz zu mir, ist das Ding bestimmt echt schwer!

Where I come from ( that's from the outerskirts of Kiel) frogs are def. not metallic! Maybe the people mean those frogs, when they speak of Heavy metal, since that thing is ,in contrast to me, really heavy.

Aber ich habe nicht nur Metallfrösche gesehen, sondern auch wunderschöne Architektur!
But I haven't just seen metallic frogs but also wonderful architecture!


Nach dieser Tour habe ich dann noch Sylvester bei Kalinumba verbracht und bin jetzt auf dem Weg zum Sternsingen!
After this day out I celebrated New Years Eve with Kalinumba and now I'm on my way to goepiphany carol singing in Bavaria!

Kalinumba hat auch noch ein bisschen was in ihrem Blog geschrieben!

Goals? What goals?

O.k. with a bit of horror I discovered, that I made some resolutions for 2008 at the end of 2007, so let's see what I've accomplished from my "list of goals"

1. Knit a pair of socks out of each of the 3 sockpattern books that I own
   Two out of three, not bad. Need to knit more from my books though
2. Keeping track of what I have knitted and sewn incl. yardage
   Nope..
3. Reduce my fabric stash. This year I have done o.k. with purchasing but I feel kind of overwhelmed by the amount of fabric that I own. To do that I want to sew at least
   -2 pyjamas Made 5 kids pyjamas, I think that counts
   -1 pair of jeans Nope
   -the hoodie for rosie DONE
   -a 1016 onion anorak for me DONE. For my sister but I made one.
   -2 t-shirts DONE! I made at least 3!
   -a blouse from the heringbone cotton fabric I own Nope
   -2 vintage garnments including "viva scandinavia" Nope, just made the viva scandinavia
   
4. try out 6 new techniques for our sew-along which focusses on new techniques! Nope!
5. Put all the pics from our 2005 journey to New England into the picture books before going to visit Annika in the US next year! DONE
6. Continue to de-clutter Not really. Need to get back on track!
7. sew up my 2 ufos left DONE, there's another one though
8. make myself a needlecase from the fabric I got from my sp11 pal Katja DONE
9. make my PIF gifts DONE! Not in time but done!

Not bad. I got a lot of the stuff done, that I wanted to. My stash is still too big and the quilt takes away a lot of my sewing mojo...

O.k. and now the "resolutions" for 2009

- of course: working on the quilt. I want to make at least 100 blocks for the quilt in 2009
- make 10 things from stash or at least incorporate some stash fabric in projects(sewing)
- make a sweater/Cardigan/top from stash (knitting)
- be more selfish when it comes to knitting
- make at least 3 pairs of socks for me either from my ravelry queue or from my books
- knit up some of the Wollmeiseyarn, that I have in my stash. It's not good just knitting with the
semi-nice yarn and fondling the more expensive yarn. It's there to be used.
- post all projects with yardage/weight on my blog, so that I can make a total at the end of 2009

This year I have fewer resolutions, but that is o.k. with me!

Frohes neues Jahr,

puh, ich (Santa Socke, ich hab jetzt einen Namen!!!) bin so schnell unterwegs, dass ich leider noch gar keine Zeit hatte von meinem zweiten Stop zu erzählen, obwohl ich schon auf dem Weg zu meinem vierten Ziel bin!

Nachdem Yasmin mir das Isental gezeigt hatte, bin ich schnell weiter nach Ottobrunn, denn mir wurde bei Frau Schlamuser ein original Weißwurstfrühstück versprochen und ich als Nordlicht, kann mir doch nicht entgehen lassen.

Happy new year everybody,

phew, I'm (that is me, Santa sock! I do have a name now!!) travelling so fast, that I did not have had time to post about my second stop on my journey thru Germany although I'm already on the way to my fourth host!

After staying with Yasmin and seeing the Isental, I hurried to a town close by Munich named Ottobrunn since Frau Schlamuser offered a traditional Weißwurst-breakfast and since I'm from way up north I couldn't let this opportunity pass! Yummy!

Und gewachsen bin ich auch noch! Guckt mal!
And I've also grown a bit. Look!

Nachdem ich in Ottobrunn war, bin ich dann weiter nach Langenselbold, aber davon morgen mehr.

After staying in Ottobrunn, I continued my trip and my next stop was Langenselbold, but more on that tomorrow!
